A fresh and rather charming idea to earn you some brownie points next Sunday – orange segments dipped in dark chocolate and sprinkled with sea salt for Mother’s Day. They’re quick and easy to make and they’re a lovely and light end to a meal – the tiny pinch of salt balances the sweet and sharp citrus flavours perfectly.

You could try a few other versions too – milk chocolate with chopped pistachio nuts, desiccated coconut or crushed almonds, for example, would be great, as would dark chocolate with tiny pieces of preserved ginger or smashed toffee shards.

CHOCOLATE ORANGE SEGMENTS

Either make them beforehand and leave to set in the fridge, or set out a big bowl of melted chocolate and lots of little bowls of different ingredients and leave everyone to it for a fun DIY dessert. Unsurprisingly enough, they’re lovely with a cup of tea or coffee.

Melt the chocolate in a small bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Dunk the orange segments in the chocolate, covering each side evenly. Set them out on a piece of parchment and just before they’re set sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt or any other ingredients over them. Leave to cool and serve.

  2. Very tasty indeed. I could eat an orange or three done like this.
